Round Rock, TX, July 17, 2025 - Rooted in history and modernized by the latest manufacturing technology, Heritage Trail is a 10-foot-wide, 0.60-mile-long concrete path running along Brushy Creek.

Honoring the original settlement of Brushy, which later became known as Old Town, the project was spearheaded by Brandon Hay, PLA, the former project manager at Halff Associates in Richardson, Texas.

“The Heritage Trail West project is designed to share the rich history of Round Rock along the hike-and-bike trail that winds through downtown,” explains Hay, who is currently serving as the landscape architecture and urban design studio lead for Buildings & Places. “As the trail follows the path of Brushy Creek, the story of the city unfolds, evolving in tandem with the landscape design. Each section of the trail reflects a different era, with surrounding parks and furnishings changing to match the time period being interpreted.”

Part of this project involved revitalizing Memorial Park, a 14.11-acre park comprising a creekside trail, softball field, playground, and more. Hay drew inspiration from 20th-century modernism, but resilience was also a must due to the frequent flooding in the area. He ultimately collaborated with QCP to design custom picnic tables and benches to meet his modernist vision with ultra-durable concrete.

“It was great working with Brandon in helping him realize his design,” says Anthony Vargas, QCP’s regional sales executive covering the western United States. “We discussed how we would achieve his design using our molding process, and details on how to anchor the benches and tables to withstand inclement weather.”

The park reopened in August 2024, welcoming a thoughtfully designed space ready to take on picnics, fishing excursions, and more.
