Norco, CA, April 17, 2026 - QCP's first-ever Ecological Design Challenge was a call to action for professional and student designers. Our mission was to think more creatively about site elements, and determine how precast concrete structures could benefit the community while also contributing to environmental solutions.
With more than 40 submissions, the breadth of ideas, rigor of thinking, and creativity on display made this an incredibly difficult process. The jury spent weeks in thoughtful discussion and debate, and each proposal brought something compelling to the table. Narrowing it down was incredibly challenging.
In evaluating each submission, the jury looked for ideas that could move beyond concept and into reality; designs that could be manufactured by QCP, easily specified by landscape architects, and deployed at scale. Equally important was the ability to address a clear ecological or community need, while maintaining a strong sense of design quality and visual impact.
We were genuinely inspired by the way participants pushed the boundaries of ecological design, reimagining materials, systems, and the role of site amenities in shaping more regenerative landscapes.
After much deliberation, we’re thrilled to announce the winners in both categories:

We also wanted to extend our sincerest thanks to our esteemed judges: Sebastian Felbeck, Senior Construction Manager, City of Santa Monica; Gulla Jónsdóttir, Founder and Principal of Atelier Gulla Jonsdottir; Steven Handel, Professor Emeritus of Ecology and Evolution at Rutgers University; Rick Crook, QCP's Chief Executive Officer; and Wil Crook, QCP's Executive Vice President of Operations.
