NORCO, CA, August 2 - In partnership with renowned industrial designer John Cook, QCP has unveiled the new and improved Y2 bench. Made from Jatoba hardwood and QCP’s standard reinforced concrete (SRC), this bench is elevating the original Yellowstone bench by making it more sleek and sophisticated.

John says that he has wanted to reinvent the Yellowstone bench for a few years. As a collaborator with QCP since 2001, John recently approached CEO Rick Crook about finally updating this bench. Rick immediately gave him the go-ahead.

“That’s my favorite part about our relationship,” John says. “He’s really open to doing new things. So that’s when I did a few variations.” Working with QCP’s Director of Design Matt Gilio-Tenan and Rick, the team refined the details of the design so it would be ready for fabrication.

During the team’s final meeting about the Y2 in Venice, California, they set up the full scale mock-up. John brought his signature Sharpie to make a few tweaks before the product was finalized.

“Y2 had to bring the best parts of concrete out and make it look slim, light and approachable,” John says. “It was really just the desire to take something that was a staple of QCP and redesign it to give a more modern, contemporary feel to it.”

John and QCP delivered with a product that is an impressive 270 pounds lighter than the Yellowstone model. The 100-pound bench is available in QCP’s standard four colors: Mission White, French Gray, Natural and Latte.
