BAAR, SWITZERLAND, June 2023 - QCP's Stelaris site lighting, created in partnership with designer Max Beach from Linespace and SPJ Lighting, Inc, earned an honorable mention at the 2023 SIT Furniture Design Awards. Introduced in November 2020, the Stelaris lineup brought a fresh perspective by bringing concrete into a space dominated by steel, aluminum and brass.

“Being designers, the aesthetics tend to be a given part of our project results. When we are recognized for how our approach solves a problem that’s a significant honor,” Beach says. “Innovation means more than just new technologies, it’s an implementation of technology, materials for a purpose. Developing beautiful and durable site lighting that stands the test of time is the ultimate goal.”

The SIT Furniture Design Awards were first unveiled in 2020, with the aim to highlight professionals and products in the “seat and beyond” space. The program is part of the 3C Group, a Switzerland-based company that specializes in awards, marketing, media and events. There are four categories within the awards program: Professional Winners, Student Winners, Honorable Mention and Country Pick. The Stelaris products were featured in the Honorable Mention category for Innovation of the Year.

Beach recalls the design phase for Stelaris, which involved creating visual concepts of what the line could become.

“When starting to think about who we might talk with about this project, QCP immediately came to mind,” Beach says. “We had worked with them on precast site installations In the past and their attention to detail was impressive. We created a full scale physical mock-up along with a series of renderings to show a family of products and invited Rick Crook to our office.”

With support and encouragement from QCP, plus a  recommendation to collaborate with SPJ, Beach was eager to get started — and QCP CEO Rick Crook was on the same page.

“Working with great designers, like Linespace, is the best part of my job,” shares Crook. “They definitely hit the mark with Stelaris. Their designs are as functional as they are beautiful. We are honored to be part of the team that brought this product line to market and super excited about the SIT award.”

There are three products within the Stelaris family: uplights with four different light intensities and adjustable lenses, pathway lights with 18”-30” heights and lighted bollards with 360 degrees of illumination. They are not only durable, but they are also made with a unique style factor that sets them apart from other site lighting options on the market.

From spotlighting trees to illuminating a pathway, there are so many opportunities to use the Stelaris products in outdoor spaces. The collection features state-of-the-art, energy-efficient LED elements, courtesy of SPJ, a company that’s been producing outdoor lighting solutions for 25 years.

“We were really able to bring together architecture and style with state-of-the-art lumen and color packages,” Paul Lestz, President of SPJ Lighting, Inc. previously shared. “So you’ve got customizable light, designer looks and baseball-bat-resistant durability. It’s the real deal.”

“The feel of the product is second to none,” adds Beach. “The response has been particularly positive for the listed bollards and pathway lights with project specifications turning into orders. As they are getting installed, we are excited to visit and see how they hold up. That will be the true reward.”
