NORCO, CA, October 25 - The latest innovation from QCP is the Merge Mono, which combines three different materials to create a new-and-improved waste container design. After hearing from QCP clients that there was a need for a lighter-appearing waste container, the design team created the company’s first multi-material option.

“We've always been the experts in concrete manufacturing and precast concrete site furnishings and being able to add wood and steel brings so much more creativity to our product development process,” says QCP CEO Rick Crook. “We strive to be innovative in our designs, and we hit the mark with the Merge.”

The Merge Mono has a precast concrete top and base, and a steel frame with wood slats made from sustainably sourced Jatoba. The wood was selected for its long-lasting performance and will patina over time. The concrete top and base are non-corrosive and weather-resistant, especially when compared to all-metal designs. And with the weight of the top and base, you do not need to anchor it down or worry about people moving it around.

Matt Gilio-Tenan, QCP’s director of design and marketing, also shared some special details about the function of the waste container.  Instead of having to lift the trash up and out the top like so many other containers, maintenance workers can open the hinge-less door to access the roto-molded liner located inside for easy removal.

“The design is simple and bullet-proof.  There are stainless steel pins on the top and bottom that connect the door to the precast concrete components, and the steel frame is notched so that it allows the wood to swing inside of the frame,” he says.

Another benefit of the Merge Mono is how easy it is to clean. Gilio-Tenan also says. “There is a drain and keyhole at the bottom, which allows water to drain out. It’s also available in two sizes (29 or 45 gallons), and we always recommend specifying a honed finish on the precast concrete for extra durability.”

The Merge Mono was introduced at the 2023 ASLA Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and it’s the first of many iterations within the Merge line. In the future, QCP plans to release different versions for recycling and add options like steel slats and integrated canopy lids to keep the rain out.
