NORCO, CA, September 13 - QCP is unveiling the latest seating system, the Unity. Comprising three basic shapes with a ball and socket-style linking system, this partnership with designer John Cook is the most innovative one yet.

“Our focus was creating a system with a few pieces that link and move together quite well so landscape architects can create a space where you link these pieces together, separate them slightly, and they actually echo each other,” Cook says. “It’s just very universal.”

The Unity system was inspired by landscape architects’ need for seating and planting options in standard or irregularly shaped spaces. The three basic shapes are pivot, notch and link.

The line also comes with two component options—seat or planter—and you can mix and match them for a more dynamic overall look. All of them are 18 inches tall (standard bench height), except for the 24-inch tall planter and stool. The modularity is the most standout feature, and allows you to customize a design based on your desired configuration.

“You can use it in many, many different ways, and the other reason that they're round is because it gives us angles, it gives us curves, it gives us arcs, it gives us all sorts of irregular shapes,” Cook says.

The contours and undulating surface of the Unity’s design also makes it virtually impossible for damage from skateboarders. With that, it’s made for almost any space—from shopping malls to botanical gardens.

“It's not about a statement piece,” Cook says. “The statement is in the space around it, but these provide a lot of function and do it in a way that's kind of understated but still nice, functional and simple.”

“We are very excited to see what designers do with the product line and the various configurations we will see them used,” says QCP Director of Design & Marketing Matthew Gilio-Tenan. “It’s one of those products that has the potential to be used in unexpected ways, and that's what makes it so interesting.”
